Classic Blue was announced the color of the year for 2020 several weeks ago by Pantone. There is a bit of mystic associated with this announcement. I await the announcement with anticipation. What will the color be for this year? Who decides and how is that decision made? Frankly I don’t know the whole process or science that goes into making this announcement. None-the-less every year I’m curious as to what the color will be. Admittedly some of the choices I question!
This year’s choice of classic blue seems so “normal” perhaps to some even a bit boring! Not to worry. Pantone called the color reassuring, dependable and stable. It symbolizes the qualities necessary for building a solid foundation in the 2020’s and beyond. Classic Blue is reminiscent of the sky and ocean. It embodies what we see in the natural world. It reminds us to slow down and enjoy life.
Blue is a favorite color of many people. It is “classic.” Blue is associated with feelings of calm, peacefulness and serenity. It instills loyalty, intellect and thoughtfulness. Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious and expand our thinking. The possibilities are endless! The executive director of Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, said “We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by Classic Blue, a solid and dependable hue we can always rely on.” We can only hope the world will embrace what Classic Blue encourages.
In the gemstone world, the gems that closely resemble classic blue are sapphires, lapis lazuli and azurite. Sapphires are one of my personal favorites as it is my birthstone (September) and the most close in color and well, “classic!” Lapis is another beautiful gem and not nearly as pricey as sapphire. Azurites are also an inexpensive beautiful gem. They are starting to move more towards cobalt in color and are often mixed with malachite.
How will you be incorporating Classic Blue into your life?
Until next time,
ENJOY!!
