As I am sitting in my studio writing this we are getting pelted with rain. Luckily our house sits on fairly high level ground so I don’t think there is a risk of us getting flooded. Or if we do the entire state of North Carolina is going to need to build an ark. Hurricane Florence also spared us. We are safe and dry! Unfortunately I cannot say the same for most of North Carolina.
rain, rain, rain go AWAY!!
I went from one disastrous state to another. Last week I was traveling in the Cashton, Wisconsin area visiting family and attending my 35th High School Class reunion. I was also celebrating my birthday and attend the big town of Cashton’s, population maybe not quite 1,000, 75th annual Fall Festival Parade.

That part of Wisconsin had just been hit by flooding a few days before I arrived. During my stay it had stopped raining but damage from the rain and flooding was evident.
I am slowly beginning to replace all my cleaning and personal care products with non-toxic essential oil products that I am making myself. Today I made dish soap, shower gel and body soap. Eventually some of these products will be for sale on my website www.cksventures.com What products would you like to see? All the recipes I used were new to me. Once I use the products if I like them I will post the recipes.
As I sign off, rain continues to pour down. It doesn’t look like we are going to see the sunshine until Wednesday.
I once again have broken my own promise to be consistent with my blog. Some weeks, even with all the good intentions I have, It just does not happen. Last week, yet again was one of those weeks.
I have a busy week coming up bartending everyday but Thursday at the sports bar so I have made it my goal to get my blog written before the week started so that I don’t have yet another week pass me by with no blog! Bartending at the sports bar is really starting to mess with my livelihood and social life! I have been examining and scrutinizing just how profitable it has been for me to bartend and to continue to do so. That however is going to be another blog.
Since moving to North Carolina in March 4014, Ken and I have not taken a vacation nor have we done or gone anywhere significant. Sure, we have had the occasional friends or family members come visit, but with all the moving, buying, selling and building a new home all our time, money and thoughts were on that. We are finally settled (for the most part) in our new home. It is due time to explore this beautiful state we now call home.
To celebrate our 28th anniversary we decided to do just that by taking a little weekend getaway to the Asheville area. Our first stop the Catawba Falls.
Catawba Falls
I know. I was just there a couple weeks prior when my mom and friend came to visit but I wanted to go again with Ken and to make it to the top of the falls. We went. But didn’t make it to the top of the falls! In Ken’s words, “why? We can see the falls.” He was right. After reading the sign and chatting with a young chap less than half my age I decided seeing the falls from the bottom of the falls was just fine!
danger Catawba Falls
Today was not the day for serious injury and certainly not death! It was the perfect day. Not too hot! We enjoyed the hike and got some great pictures.

After seeing the falls we stopped at a beautiful garden of sculptures. We didn’t actually visit his studio but rather explored his garden of sculptures and enjoyed his beautiful works. The studio is Dragonfly Studio, Old Fort, NC. The artist is Henry Harvey. I grabbed a brochure of his. Not only is he a sculptor, www.harveygallery.com but has also written a number of books. www.henryharveybooks.com

We continued into Ashville, checked into our hotel, tidied up and visited Sierra Nevada Brewery. Beautiful place. We did a self-guided tour of the brewery while enjoying one of their beers.

Next stop Wicked Weed Brewery. Well not the actual brewery but the “Funkatorium” which after visiting their website I discovered is the East Coast’s first sour and funky beer dedicated taproom. It features over a dozen varieties of these styles on draught against the backdrop of Wicked Weed’s entire sour and funky barrel-aging program. I don’t know when or exactly how I discovered sour beers, but I like them!
The next day we headed to Elijah Mountain Gem Mine. It was listed as one of the top things to do in North Carolina. It was also in nearby Hendersonville and well I do like my gems. I was curious if this was a go to place to buy rocks. It was a nice visit. They did have some nice gems but not this place to go if you’re a jewelry artist, which I am, looking to buy gemstones. It is geared towards tourists and more specifically tourists with children. As you can “mine” and keep the gemstones you find mining. Still a great little place for a visit.

Hendersonville was an adorable little town.

While there we came upon a great little winery, Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards. www.saintpaulmountainvineyards.com I just now discovered that it is actually on the top 10 wineries of North Carolina. My bucket list includes visiting all the North Carolina wineries. To date, according to my Google search there are about 133 wineries. I think I have maybe visited about 10 since we have lived here. I have some touring to do! We spent the early afternoon doing a wine tasting of all 15 of their wines. Rather I did the wine tasting. Ken is not a wine drinker or for that matter really not a drinker at all anymore! lucky me! I always have a designated driver. There was only one wine that I dumped, and that was partly due to the fact that I had a lot of wines to taste! The wines were delish!

I ended up buying a case and joining their wine club. See what happens when you start drinking! When I got it all home I thought to myself gosh I hope I really do like it and that it wasn’t just the alcohol talking. I had a glass of one of the bottles last night YUM!!! Good decision after all!
St Paul Mountain Vineyards wine YUMMY!
We had lunch there from a food truck on site along with another glass of wine. It was a perfect way to end our little get-away before heading back home.
I would like our next get-away to be east to the outer banks.
It don’t matter if it is a wasp, a yellow jacket, a black jacket, a carpenter bee or a honey bee. And now most recently a sweat bee. A bee is a bee is a bee! I do not like bees and I avoid them as much as I can. I had a recent run in, LITERALLY with sweat bees and now I am even more scared of them if that is possible.
We let Coco Chanel, our tortie kitten, who is starting to become a cat, outside to play. We have kitty doors where our other two cats, Porche, and Georgio Armani come and go as they please. Until Cocoa figures out how to use them she has supervised outdoor playtime. So far she is proving not to be a bright as the other two and has yet to figure it out. She was playing outside while my husband and I were having dinner on the back porch as we often do. We try to keep her in the backyard where we can keep an eye on her. Sometimes she can be a little toot though and wanders off where we can’t see her, or into the woods which was the case on this particular evening. Ken went to fetch her. All of a sudden he comes running and screaming that he is being attacked by bees. we got him into the house and got all the bees off him. He had several stings which I proceeded to treat with essential oils. More on that in a bit.
He lost his glasses in the process and asked me to go look for them. I did but could not find them. He came out with me to sort of point me in the area. All of a sudden I was being stung. I did not see the bees I did not hear the bees. Later, after administering to our wounds, we did some research and figured out that they were sweat bees.
Most sweat bees nest in the ground, though a few nest in wood and are active only at dusk or in the early evening. Who knew! The next day my husband did some further investigating and sure enough, there nest was in an old rotted log. He took care of them. Me, not going anywhere near there!
I got the worst of the bee wrath. Ken got stung a few times but I got stung several times more than he did. He got stung on the arms and legs and one on the back of his neck. Me not so lucky. I got stung several times on my butt! It looked like they had a party back there. Not only on by butt, but also high on my inner thigh really close to my you know what! How they ever got in my pants I have no ideal! I also had stings on my legs and arm.
Thank goodness for my essential oils. With a quick bit of research, I made a paste of baking soda, lavender and roman chamomile essential oils. It helped! A lot. Granted, even though the essential oil recipe helped, I was still in lots of pain for most of the night. I couldn’t sit very well either! I can’t remember exactly how much I used of each. Maybe about 3 drops each of the essential oils with a tablespoon of baking soda and enough water to make a paste. Another recipe I found is a Bee Sting Blend.
Ingredients
2 drops of lavender essential oil
1 drop of chamomile essential oil
1 drop of peppermint essential oil
1 drop of vetiver essential oil
Directions
Mix all the above oils in a small non-reactive, non-food use bowl and apply to the bee sting area using a cotton swab.
Apply every few hours for complete relief.
After the bee attack incident, I decided it was time to make something to deter any bee from ever stinging me again. I have not yet tried the following recipe but will be doing so soon.
I also read that soapy water can get rid of bees. I will add a few drops of dawn dishwashing detergent to the recipe. I can then again enjoy the outdoors…hopefully!!
I am finally starting to feel a bit settled after over 4 years. I feel like I may be getting my life back in order and it feels fantastic. However, sometimes the best laid plans and “good intentions” no matter how good don’t always pan out. It has been a cray busy last couple of weeks. This is where the good intentions not working out comes in. I made a commitment to write my blog once a week to help market and get my business on tract. It didn’t happen last week. I am trying not to beat myself up about it (too much).
I spent two days in Franklin, NC at the GL&W gem show. It is not nearly as big as the Tucson gem and jewelry shows or the JCK show I use to attend in Las Vegas but it is a good show especially the July one. Many of my favorite vendors attend the Franklin show. I stocked up on some really great things, mainly gemstones. I went over my budget but the nice thing about gemstones is that they do not go bad or out of style! Being at the gem show has really gotten be excited to get back to work. I am starting to make my new line of aromatics so I also got a bunch of tumbled gems for the elixirs and soaps I am planning on making along with essential oils. I am really excited about this venture. I have been doing some research and cannot wait to get started to see what creations I come up with.
After I got home from the gem show. My mom and her friend came for a visit from Wisconsin for a few days. The first day they were here we met a friend of mine for lunch. I took them to the Hot Tin Roof where I have been bartending. We grilled pork chops for dinner and just sort of hung out. The next day we did not really have any plans and at the spur of the moment decided to take a drive to Catawba Falls. It was a 3 hour drive, with lots of rain! We started our 1.5 mile hike in the misty rain but it soon let up.
Stupid me in the spur of the moment decision making was not thinking. I was wearing flip flops for a hike on a muddy rocky uphill trail. Duh! My 81 year old mother was a trooper. She made it about half-way to the falls before we sent her back. I and her friend kept on. We almost made it to the top of the falls. I decided to stop where a sign read “Danger, serious injury and or death have occurred” something about if continuing on. Had I not been wearing flip flops and had it not been raining I definitely would have been continuing on! I have plans to go back with my hubby. Now it is a challenge to make it all the way to the top of the falls. My mom said she heard people talking while she was walking back about the idiots who were wearing flip flops. the “idiot” would be me!
The next day they were here, we visited a chocolate factory in Raleigh and went to the Raleigh State Farmers market. I have been wanting to go there for some time but in the 4 years of living here hadn’t yet made it. The farmers market was pretty “Wow!” I bought some herbs, flowers, some ceramic pots and a few things for dinner that night. My childhood friend, Julie from San Diego was in town with her daughters and niece visiting colleges. I had invited them for dinner. We had a nice visit and a good meal with most of the food from the farmers market.
My husband and I spent the rest of the week and weekend prepping and planting the herbs and flowers we bought. Prepping meant weeding a good stretch of our hope to soon be yard. We had planted grass and wildflowers earlier. I did not want to take chemical warfare to it. I am not really into using chemicals anymore and I did not want to accidentally kill all my bamboo or the wildflowers that were still blooming so I weeded. NOT an easy task! I don’t think I worked quite so hard since growing up on a dairy farm milking cows and baling hay. My body definitely felt it. But I must say the hard work was worth it and I am liking how it is shaping up.
With going to the gem show and having my mom visit, I have not been bartending. I have not missed it one bit either. I am not scheduled to work at the sports bar this coming week either. I am not exactly sure why but I don’t care! The plans for the week include getting back to doing some creating!
When Ken and I decided to build a new home vs trying to add on and remodel our existing home we decided that I should go back to work to earn a bit of extra money. I looked into going back to accounting, but being out of it for so long, or rather I should say having not worked for corporate doing accounting, the recruiters I spoke with wanted me to work temp or minimal level accounting work. Along with minimal pay of $10 -$12 an hour. At the time I was coloring my hair some fun colors too. No way were they going to let me back in corporate America without changing my hair! I really did not want to go back working in corporate America any way. The hair and the money added to my reasons for not!

I did a bunch of research on some of the best paying part time jobs. Bartending kept popping up. It seemed to be the route to go to make some decent money without a whole lot of responsibility. I could leave work at work, plus it would give me the opportunity to meet some people. I attended a bartending school and got a job bartending with a small Italian Restaurant in Chapel Hill. I quit the first day I started as he wanted to make me into a server. He called me back with the promise I could bartend, which I did. It was not a whole lot of bartending. I eventually got a job with a catering company. They too wanted to try and turn me into a server. I did initially give it a try a couple of times. HATED IT!! I went back to only requesting gigs where bartenders were needed. They did try and make me serve a couple of times but I told them not going to do it and didn’t!
I worked a couple other places for a short time while continuing to work with the catering company. Both of the places I worked did not work out for one reason or another. In the summer of 2016 I started bartending at the Durham Bulls! Loved it and was making some fantastic money so quit the catering company. We had also moved from Chapel Hill to Hillsborough. The catering company and the jobs were mostly in the Raleigh area so it was not worth it for me to travel that far.
Initially the Bulls wanted to offer me a job as a suite attendant. AGAIN what with everyone trying to turn me into a server. I didn’t pay $500 to attend bartending school and not bartend! I turned it down but they came back offering me a job as a bartender. My first season at the Durham Bulls I not only made some great money but also made some great friends. I got called back to work the next season. Again I was making really good money, though not quite as much as the first season. At the end of the season we were just starting to build our home so I got another bartending job at a local bar, was only a bar. Loved the management, loved the patrons and the people who I work with only problem, no money! I mean like below minimum wage no money! I continued to work there until the 3rd season of the bulls. Then I told them that unless I made more I was going to spend most my time working at the Bulls, which I did and still am!
About half –way through the season I started working at the Sports bar. I got the job through my old boss at the Durham Bulls who left at the end of my second season. Sure do miss her this year. To cut to the chase not sure how long I will last at the sports bar. Again, the money is not there. At least it hasn’t been yet. Here is a recount of this past week. On Friday working the day shift, management decided to give me two tables. In a roundabout way I said do I have to? In no uncertain terms I was told yes! I have had no experience waiting tables. None! Nor do I have any desire to learn, or do so. Granted I think the servers make more money than the bartenders currently do but yet I just do not want to be a server. Management knows this from working with her at the bulls.
I get the two tables, I am not happy about it but try to put on a happy face and begrudgingly take their orders. About the time they get their food I get slammed with 9 people as the bar. All of them wanting food. I let them know I needed help. I was told not to worry about it that my tables would be taken care of. The one table another table paid their tab. My other table one of the guys did not get his food. I checked twice before they finally had his food ready and I brought it out to him. This while still trying to take all my orders at the bar and make drink orders for all the servers. Since I thought my tables were be taken care of, I never went back to check on them. The guy came to me at the bar and asked for the check. Ok, so much for taking care of my tables. I said to him, “certainly.” I got his check, he gave me his card. I went back to the table and said, “I apologize. I am not a server but a bartender. I have never been a server in my life, but today they decided to give me some tables to wait on. I know that you have had the worst service ever.” And believe me they did! “I wouldn’t blame you if you never came back. I hope you give us another try when I am not your waitress!” I truly was not expecting any sort of tip from them. They did give me 5 dollars. Not bad, considering! Lucky for me no more tables the rest of my shift.
The day got even better. I had that little rush and that was about it for the day. Needless to say I made a whole $60 in tips, of which I got to take about $40 home. This was a 6 hour shift. Do the math. Yup! That’s it! When they closed me out, I was almost $20 short. I know I wasn’t and had I not been so “peeode” about everything I would have asked for them to show me how I was so off. My bartending career may be ending soon or at least at the sports bar. Any bartenders out there in the Durham, NC area making some great tip money and loving their job?
On a brighter note. I don’t work at the sports bar at all this week. I am heading to a gem show in Franklin, NC. I am excited to getting back to what I love most. I am getting my studio in order too. Not quite there yet. I know I will be rearranging things as I really begin to gear up but progress is being made.
All my life I have been in love with the fashion industry. There was a time in my life that I had so many clothes that I did not even wear all of them once a year simply because I had too many! As I get older clothes don’t hold the importance to me as they once did.
I am all about accessories however. Accessories make the outfit. You can wear the same clothing but create a totally different look simply by changing your accessories. Many accessories are timeless. You don’t have to constantly be changing your accessories to keep up with the latest trends. My favorite accessory are shoes! But this blog is not about shoes. Or at least today it isn’t! It is about jewelry and more specifically rings.
Rings are my favorite piece of jewelry! I know for most women earrings or necklaces are probably their fave. I love wearing rings and I love making them. A ring is a circle. A circle has no beginning or end and is therefore a symbol of infinity. It is endless, eternal. A ring is many times given as a symbol of friendship or love, as is the case of a wedding ring. For many the wedding ring is worn on the fourth finger of the left hand. This is because the vein in this finger was believed to lead directly to the wearer’s heart.
Mercury rules the little pinky finger. The pinky finger stands for intuition, communication, persuasion and intelligence. Rings worn on the pinky finger makes a statement by being isolated from your body. It tends to be “flashy.” Pick pinky rings with stones such as moonstone, amber or citrine. A pinky ring worn on the right hand can also indicate professional status.
The Ring Finger is represented by Apollo and symbolizes love of beauty, creativity, and relationship with others. In the US and much of North & South America, the ring finger is most commonly associated with wedding symbolism as mentioned above. Complimentary gemstones for the ring finger include moonstone, jade, amethyst, sapphire and turquoise. And, of course diamond in the case of a wedding ring.
The Middle Finger is ruled by Saturn and stands for responsibility, beauty, and self-analysis. The middle finger is open to interpretation when it comes to wearing a ring. You can choose your own symbolism for a ring on this prominent finger. Wearing a ring on the middle finger can make a huge statement and add style to any outfit. Consider rose quartz, coral and aquamarine for rings on this finger.
The pointer finger is named for Jupiter and represents leadership, self-esteem, ambition and authority. Select a ring with lapis lazuli, amethyst or blue topaz gemstones for your index finger.
The thumb represents will-power and self-assertion. It is the only finger not named after a Greek god. Wearing a thumb ring makes for a powerful fashion statement. People viewing your jewelry will see you as fashionable and confident. Carnelian, garnet and ruby gemstones make great thumb rings.
Having said all this, dare to break the rules and make your own statement. Choose your own personal ring style. I recently listed the rings I currently have available on my website. www.cksventures.com Check them out and choose the prefect ring for each of your fingers.
I have had another crazy busy week! I thought once our house was built I would have a bunch more time to focus on my jewelry business along with getting my aromatic artistry products developed. I thought wrong. It seems there is always something!
It has been a busy week of bartending. Both at the new sports bar that I started working at and at the Durham Bulls. There were two days of working at both. That just about downright killed me! I think I might be getting too old for working 12 hours on my feet! Even though I can still run circles around some of the bartenders who are half my age! On Friday night after bartending at the bulls, I had bartended earlier at the sports bar, a couple of friends and I went to have a drink as we often do. We usually get finished about the same time the game is letting out so it makes sense to grab a bite to eat and or have a drink until traffic dies down. I took my normal route home, the shortest! As I was exiting I notice a gazillion cop cars. I was thinking wow, must have been a really, really bad accident to have all those cop cars. As I got closer I didn’t notice any wrecked vehicles, ambulances or fire trucks. It never occurred to me that they were pulling one of North Carolina’s infamous “driver’s licenses checks.” Does any other state do that?
I rolled down my window as I pulled forward and stopped. Officer, “We are doing a license check, can I see your driver’s license.” Me, “sure, let me just pull it for you.” Officer, where are coming from?” Me, “the Durham Bulls game.” I think I failed to mention, I was bartending at the Durham Bulls game. I know I smelled of booze and sweat! Officer, “have you had anything to drink?” Me, “I had a glass of wine.” It never occurred to me that maybe I should have said no! Did I mention I am a horrible liar? At a very young age I learned to just tell the truth and deal with the consequences. It was easier! Officer, “will you please step out of the car.” Me, “yes sir!” Silently to myself, oh shit! Officer, “Can you see this pen”, as he pulled a ball point pen from his pocket and held it in front of my face while shining a flash light in my eyes. It was pitch black outside aside from all the lights on the cop cars and it was raining ever so slightly. Me, “I can see it.” Officer, “touch the top of the pen with your finger.” I did. Officer, “follow the pen with your eyes. Don’t move your head. Just your eyes.” I guess I must have started to move my head. For what felt like an eternity, which was more likely about 5 minutes, the officer moved the pen up, down, way to the left, in circles, up, down and around! I kept telling myself to stay focused, concentrate and follow the damn pen. Never mind the rain or the bright light shining in my eyes.
Officer, “I had to check to make sure you are safe to drive. You can get back in your car, drive safe and have a nice night.” Me, “thank you officer,” giving him the sweetest smile I could muster. Whew that was some excitement I didn’t need. The most I ever drink when I am driving is 2 drinks. Which is always wine, and usually over the course of a couple hours. It probably was a good thing that I was so tired, otherwise, I may have been a nervous wreck, cops and priests have that effect on me, and sassy. I simply was too tired to care!
Despite working bartending for a good share of the week, I did manage to escape to a small gem, bead and jewelry show. I picked up a couple little baubles for some gem elixirs I am experimenting with, and of course a couple of baubles for making my jewelry. And I did seem some rather unique wire wrapping art sculptures.
I finally have time to get my hair done. For the past couple of years I was having fun with my hair, coloring it hot pink, purple turquoise and green. But with the new bartending job, hair must be a “natural” hair color and for a change I decided to go red. Albeit, a fun funky red!
While we were building our home, bartending seemed like a good idea to earn some extra money. And it was! I could go to work, bring home cash and have no worries about anything. Now that our house is built I am not so sure it is serving its purpose anymore. I am beginning to wonder if I should put all my time and effort into concentrating on my jewelry and aromatics artistry business.
I really enjoy bartending. I have met some fascinating people and have some really good stories to tell and will, but the money is not what I have expected. I get great tips, most of the time averaging over 25% but when the bar only has a handful of people it doesn’t amount to a whole lot of money.
I had my first day of bartending at the sports bar on Friday. I worked the am shift from 10 – 4. By the time I got out of there it was closer to five. Why are bartenders notoriously late for their shift? I have yet to figure out the mentality of bartenders. I digress… We were not all that busy for a Friday. Not sure if that is typical or not. I would think Friday would be a good day. I came home with just making a bit over $10 an hour. NOT ENOUGH in my opinion!
When I got to work the bar wasn’t a terrible mess but by no means was it all that clean. There was leftover fruit from drinks in the sinks. The bar was sticky and had crumbs on it. No one wiped it down. And the worse was the broken glasses in the cooler. The other bartender informed me that that was normal, part of the initiation of becoming a bartender. Seriously? I won’t stand for that crap for long. If it happens again tomorrow morning when I go in I may just have to tattle! I cannot stand that petty crap. Remember, I said I probably was not going to like working with all woman. I rest my case.
Back on the home front. I am still working on getting my studio organized so that I can back to designing and creating jewelry. I am also working on things around the home including our yard. We planted bamboo to act as a privacy wall between the road and our house. I have no window treatments and lots of big windows. We are also trying to keep the dust to a minimum. The road is gravel.
Before moving here, the last time I traveled on a gravel road was circa 1970’s in rural Wisconsin! Despite what people say, you can kill bamboo! First I killed it by over watering it. Then recently, just as it was starting to get some new shoots, the deer have chomped on it!
Not only are the deer eating my bamboo.
But they have beheaded most of my wildflowers!
Not sure what I should try to plant. Suggestions anyone?
Ever notice how sometimes your best laid plans and good intentions just don’t seem to happen? That was last week for me. The Durham Bulls were on the road so I had a whole week free from bartending, or so I thought! My plan was to take pictures of all my jewelry I currently have and get it all listed on my website www.cksventures.com so that this week I could continue getting my studio organized, start work on some new jewelry pieces and start formulating some essential oil perfumes and body butters. I had good intentions. I really did!
But what did I do instead? Get another bartending job! I interviewed on Monday, I met with the General Manager on Tuesday. Wednesday I had orientation. Thursday I had my first day of training. Friday my second and Saturday my third. I was good after my first. It is not like I never bartended before. The big difference with this bartending gig is that I have to take the food orders for people sitting at the bar. Not so sure I am going to like that. And, the bartenders are also responsible for making all the servers’ orders. I like making drinks. It helps feed “the mad scientist” in me. What I don’t like is to constantly be making drinks with no people interaction, which is primarily what I like about bartending, the people I meet!
I have a test on Tuesday. Basically I have to know all the food items. What they are, how they are prepared and what comes with them. Not only that but I have to know all 32 draft beers. AND all our import and domestic beers in bottles and cans. That is a whole lot of beer and memorization. Maybe I won’t pass and I won’t have to decide whether I should stay or go. Or maybe the money won’t be what I was expecting. We shall see. It is a sports bar. On the second day I noticed that there are only women servers and bartenders. That is a huge negative for me! Had I realized that before I may have not taken the job. Sorry ladies, I have always enjoyed working with guys better or at least a few guys! Then again I had several successful years in Mary Kay. I digress.
On a positive note, I did get most of earrings listed. So I am about half-way there to getting everything listed on my website. Once again it is my “intention” to get everything listed this week. Never mind that I work bartending either at the bulls or the sports bar every day this week but Thursday.
Hi! Welcome to my blog. My name is Cheryl. I am a designer, creator, maker and jewelry and essential oil aromatics artist. I am co-owner and the force behind CKS ventures. I am a wife, a mom of kitty furry babies, a bartender and CPA. I am a jack of many trades and master of none! I am a “wanna-be” of a whole bunch of things, including a blogger.
For the past four years, I feel like my life has been on hold. In 2014 we moved from Houston, Texas to North Carolina. In North Carolina we moved from Morrisville, to Chapel Hill and are now finally settled in Hillsborough after building our “forever” home. I have been on a hiatus for most of those four years from my jewelry business.
Time to quit procrastinating. Our home is built. We are moved in and mostly settled. My new website is finished. I have no more excuses! It is time to “just do it.” So here is me plunging back into my business head first. Including trying my hand at blogging again. I have tried, admittedly not very hard and I certainly wasn’t committed.
Our new home!
My goal with this blog is to inform. Not only about my business, but on every day life happenings. To advise. From everything you need to know about installing a septic system but never really wanted to know to tips on soldering! To inspire. And, occasionally (hopefully) entertain and make you laugh out loud!
I welcome all comments.
